If you have a slipped disk, you should avoid anything that can cause a lot of spinal flexion…this includes STATIONARY BIKES, EXERCISE BALLS, and especially PILATES. My God do not listen to these people…they think they are helping but they are really not. Most of the mat moves in Pilates are done with a flexed spine…
To “tone” the stomach and waist, you need to lose fat. An easy way to get started is to do one of those “cardio” machines for 30-45 minutes per day. Choose a machine in which you are in an upright position: stairstepper, elliptical, trreadmill, etc. Do not use any machine in which you sit because people have a tendency to flex their spines when sitting. If you kept a neutral spine it would be fine, but just use another machine and you don’t have to worry about it.
Well I’m not a professional or anything so I wouldn’t know about your back problems but I am thinking the ball would be good for you. I have one and it’s really good because it gives you support and allows you to really work your abs. I bought the one I have at walmart for only like $15.00 and I think it is really worth it.
Hope I helped and Good Luck
Pilates is a good way of toning your abs while protecting your back. Many people who have back problem do it and having toned abs helps and protects your back.
Stationary Bike. Low impact but make sure to keep the heart rate rather high. Most people don’t realize that doing crunches and sit-ups does not tone the abdominal region it just strengthens those muscles. A person cannot isolate fat-loss. The body loses fat at an even rate across itself. Granted some people are genetically predisposed to having more fat in their abdominal region than.. say their arms, but that is purely genetics. The best way to tighten or firm up any part of your body is a healthy diet and fat burning exercise.
