I Have A Lower Back Injury And Doc Advised Not Sitting. Sitting Is The Most Painful Position — Help?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Doc says “sitting” in a regular chair increases the weight pressure on lower back (and therefore my injury) tremendously and I should not sit until injury is well. It is a common injury; many people suffer from it.
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF A SPECIAL “CHAIR” FOR THIS?
I can not work if I have to stay lying on my back (i don’t DO that kind of “work” you dirty minded wormlets! lol). Seems to me others must have this same dilema, any hints, answers?

Did Anyone Experience Sciatica Pain In Your Left Leg And Hind Quarters Get Relief By Sitting On A Pillow?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I’ve had sciatic pain in my left leg and hind quarters, as you put it, for about 8 months now. The pain is worst when I lie flat on my back. I’ve been told that nerves heal very slowly – about half an inch a month. At that rate, it’s going to take a long time to heal. I have tried everything to relieve the pain – and nothing works. Slowly it will just get better. If sitting on a pillow makes you feel better, then sit on a pillow as much as you can. Do what ever makes you feel better until the nerve heals. Nerve pain is definitly up there with the worst. Good luck.

Can Sitting At A Computer All Day (for About Two Years) With Bad Posture Cause Sciatica?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Sciatica is not always caused by pressure on the disc. Sciatica is a descriptive term and it may be caused by muscle problems (piriformis syndrome) or from sacroiliac joint problems as well as disc pressure. All of these may be aggravated by sitting for extended periods.
Posture is important. There are some supports you can use to help with your seating. Also, a nice product called posture curve is a posture exerciser used behind the back while sitting.
If seat or posture modification does not help, you should see a doctor that can differentially diagnose the cause for a more specific approach.
