I have been getting BAD sciatica flare ups from mid pregnancy til now. I googled after pregnancy sciatica, but the only thing that comes up is sciatica during pregnancy. Anyone else have this lingering problem? I have been in bad pain for the past week. It improves after I sleep all night but once I get up and start walking around, it just shoots from my lower back down my leg all day. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi
I have had this problem for years too. I use Icy Hot on my low back and then Aleve. Aleve is for the inflammation, and it works wonders. I then get a heating pad and put a small towel over the heating pad and I lie on top of it for awhile. I usually do this while watching a movie, since a movie is about 2 hours long. I put the heating pad setting on low. It helps alot. Also, if you are overweight, this is also a problem sometimes. I also do stretches on my legs to release some of the pressure. And finally, some form of exercise on the low back. You can find some exercises for sciatica on the internet. I hope this helps you.
Sciatica can happen to anyone, it’s common in pregnancy and for other reasons – like straining to carry something (a baby in a car seat for example) on one side. It should improve in 4-6 weeks, meanwhile, try to do things symmetrically and don’t underuse you body as not doing what you normally do (resting your back for e.g.) can make it last longer.
Hi! I am a mother of 6 and have always had issues with sciatica. The only time I have relief is when I am pregnant, but as soon as they are born it is only a matter of time before I am in pain again! It’s something that is sometimes very hard to deal with…….having to roll out of bed, or have my husband help me up, collapsing in public! Its awful that I have learned to deal with it…………Thankfully I am happy to say that I am pregnant AGAIN!! So I am living pain free at the moment!
As far as advice……..try a chiropractor, I know alot of people are funny about them not being real doctors. But to me they are a GOD send!! Your pain may be gone in 1 adjustment!!!
I hope this helps
