How Long Will It Take To Get A Settlement For Work Related Injury?

I was injured at work while lifting a jet Ski out to a dealership because their forklift was broke. My work expected me to lift crazy amounts of wieght every day. After I got hurt, I let my boss know what happend. He begged me to keep working. After two days on the job, that night I coud’nt even get out of bed. After going through Workmans Comp and Back surgery I contacted a lawyer to handle my case. I am also seeking emotional and stress related injurys as well. The lawyer and I felt that I was worked over by my company. It has now been 8 months involved from injury to present.I have’nt heard from my lawyer in three months. I would just like to know the norm for such a mess and what I should expect in the future? I have healed good but still have pain. How much money will likley come my way? I am a student now and trying to become a nurse.

The company screwed you that is for sure. The company should have sent you to the hospital immediately upon you notifying them of your back pain.
Lawyers are terrible communicators and they will drop the ball on your case if you let them.
I went through this 3-4 years ago and the lawyers did not have a clue about my case when it went to court.
My case took about 22 months and that included the appeal my employer did and that appeal cost me about 8,000 dollars. I ended up with 25% disability and received about 15,000 after the lawyers share.
The amount received will depend upon what state you reside and the % of disability you receive. Generally the employers doc will say 5-10% disability and your doc will say 35-50% and the court will end up decided how much you will be awarded.
Retraining will depend upon how much your were making at that job and the amount you are able to make since your injury.
In the mean while your credit will be ruined unless your lucky they handle the medical bills better than they did for me.
    Good luck!

There is much information available on the internet in regard to Worker’s Comp claims. The state you live in makes a difference.
The lawsuit could take a couple of years, you should be on disability and/or worker’s comp during this time, and they should offer to retrain you for another job. Nursing is a tough job for a person with a bad back.
If you haven’t heard from your attorney in three months, pick up the phone and ask his secretary to have him call you, or ask if someone can explain to you where you are in the process. Keep good notes on everything.
