How Early In Pregnancy Can Sciatica Start?
I am 10 weeks pregnant today and the last couple of days, I have been havig sharp pains in my lower back on the left side. Could it be sciatica? I have had back problems in the past, but not lately.

Sciatica can start at any time. It is not necessarily the pregnancy itself but because you are aware you are pregnant you may be adopting a different posture. You might be standing or sitting differently that could lead to symptoms like sciatica. More likely you have tweeked a nerve in you lumbar region or put a strain on a muscle. Just tkae care of yourself and see if it goes over the next week. If not then go see your DR.
Honestly, it is possible that you MAY have Sciatic Pain but at only 10weeks pregnant you may not and what ever pain you are feeling may not be due to pregnancy. Your baby is not heavy enough to put enough pressure on your lower back or give you shooting pains down your leg this early on. Sciatica usually starts when your baby is heavy enough to apply pressure on your sciatic nerve causing the shooting pain in your lower back or the sides of your legs. If you baby favors laying on the left side, and if there is enough pressure on the sciatic nerve, you will then feel that pain.
If anything check with your Dr. He will give you better details as to what you may be feeling right now.
it could be.
no,it’s just the round ligaments of your uterus stretching, they are making roomfor your growing baby. Sciatica doesn’t happen to everybody but it would start when your baby is bigger and heavier. Congratulations on your baby!!
