So recent few weeks, I’ve been practising butterfly, especially dolphin kick, bout 3 hours a day. My back and abs often feel ache, and I’ve grown taller, but I was wondering whether it is possible to get spinal injury from doing too much butterfly?
I’m not afraid of the pain, coz I want to improve the most, but I don’t wanna have a spinal injury and not be able to walk bcoz of it.

I honestly doubt it. I have not once heard of anything like that. There were a couple guys on my swim team that would come back and practice for 2 more hours every night after practice and one that worked only his butterfly. He had no problems like that and I would assume you wouldn’t either.
But still, I personally haven’t had problems with my back after doing butterfly sets(although I never did them for 3 hours straight). I would have your coach look at your form just to make sure you are doing it right, and if he says it looks good I wouldn’t worry about it.
Also, and you probably know this, but if you are training for a big meet (like state or something like it) you should not be working your body that much at all as the time gets closer. I would say cool it about 2 or 3 weeks before you want your results.
